Has dance music got harder and faster?

I think overall, it has got harder and faster, but I also think it’s causing unnecessary dividing lines in the scene.

As someone who got in to techno during the start of the pandemic, I’ve witnessed that first hand and have spent the last few years listening to artists/sets within a big range in BPM.

I enjoy both the ‘harder/faster’ and ‘softer’ stuff but it feels to me that there is a vocal minority who seem to think you can’t like one without shitting on the other.

The amount of times I’ve seen comments like ‘if it’s not 150bpm+, I don’t want it’ or ‘These kids are playing way too fast’ is ridiculous. I think techno and dance music in general is very versatile right now and that to me, is a good thing.
