Distribution of Roma (Romani) in Europe

um... actually, you did...

The Rroma came to Europe trough Spain by pretending to be Egyptian refugees, that's where they got the name Gipsy (Egiptanos>>Gitanos>>Gipsy) and they lived as a European nomadic community pinballing all around Europe with their caravans going all over Europe as a nationless people... then the first world war started and Europe became a lot more compartmentalized and they couldn't travel as easily anymore so they settled small communities wherever they found a safe place in whichever country they got trapped in, after a brief intermission the second world war started and they found themselves being hunted down for extermination all over the north-western European countries where they were being gassed or later in the Scandinavian region... sterilized, so they started fleeing by walking across Europe just like you've seen these Syrian refugees walk across the Balkans, the gipsy took the same routes, but backwards and ended up concentrating in greater numbers in the Balkans where they found refuge in the vast wilderness of small isolated villages to which they attached themselves in purposely limited numbers, only a few families per village, to avoid forming a large and densely concentrated community so as to make culling more difficult.

The European gipsy were joined here in the Balkans by the Ukrainian and polish gipsy who fled from the path of Stalin's Holdomor famine campaigns, where the gipsy being nomads and not owning any land, rather than standing around and starving, they just fled down in to the Balkans...

So you see, this isn't a Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia etc. throwing a bag of shit in to the European fan... Now that we're at a time of piece and freedom of movement, every European country gets to be visited by this nomadic, freely roaming community (literally now since the EU abolished roaming fees) once again... We've just been kind enough to hold on to them behind the iron curtain for 50 years, while you guys settled down... They're just as poor as they were when you gave them to us, they still speak the same language, and bonus! there's a lot more of them, because we really didn't feel right about that whole genocidey/sterilization thing...

Have fun!
