This does happen. You do have to climb a lot especially in a shard that saturated. Even in my 2 yr shard, it is possible for me to drop from #1 to #15 and having to spend quite some time to climb (not comparable I know).

Not to mention bad RNG runs that prevent me from getting #1.

This, while incredibly annoying, has nothing to do with CG. Not everything is CG’s fault. People like to give CG shit for anything that goes wrong in the game, but sometimes it’s simply out of their control or completely unrelated to them (the player’s fault; not saying it’s yours here).
