I’m sorry but I just don’t fault institutions for prioritizing GPA and MCAT over diversity. When I applied I didn’t select schools because I knew my skin color would give me an edge. I don’t like supporting the ideology that my hard work wasn’t enough and that I’m just benefitting from my dark skin.
Now i think the ideal way to do it is to acknowledge that diversity has a lot of benefits to the class, the school, and society at large...but it must be weighed against the applicant as a whole.
But i don’t feel like any school is required to adopt a certain ideology if it contradicts with their other criteria. Just like none of us are required to apply there.
