Downgrading from ios10 to ios9

Used this for iOS 9 backup on iOS 8.4, theoretically should work. Make a copy before editing anything, or see if your iCloud or iTunes backup isn't that old and just use that.

The 10.0.1 backup (as others have said) won't load by default. However, you can modify the info.plist file found at the bottom of the backup file list. Here are the steps:

  • Backup your current iOS installation, make sure it is encrypted
  • On Windows browse to %appdata%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup and select your latest backup folder (by modified date)
  • On OSX browse to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and select your latest backup folder (by modified date)
  • Make a copy of the original backup folder, just in case
  • Open the folder and find the info.plist file at the bottom of the file list
  • Open the info.plist file in notepad or similar
  • Search for Build Version and change the string to 13G36
  • Search for Product Version and change the string to 9.3.5
  • Save the changes

This will allow the backup to restore to the 10.0.1 firmware. You shouldn't run into any issues going from 10.0 to 9.3.5
