Driver Cited After Bicycle Rider Provides Video of Careless Driving to Police (Photo)

If you're on a road that is divided by a yellow line and you are slower than "normal" traffic, you are supposed to yield at any available turnout. This can mean that you have to come to a full stop to let others pass you, and then re-enter the road when safe to do so (which is admittedly very clunky and frustrating for a cyclist, but is the rule of the road).

In the case of OPs video, there's ZERO excuse for what the guy in the white compact did.

The guy filming was riding in a very proper manner, and I'd say was even going along at a speed that was reasonably quick for a neighborhood street (not holding up anyone else that would be driving or biking in a safe manner).

I am really glad that motorist was cited. I got so angry watching the video that I was actually shaking (I didn't expect adrenaline to kick in, but that was infuriating to watch).

Also, I have to remind you that in the context of the other thread I was talking about it being smart to de-escalate. Sometimes that means getting out of the way of assholes, because it is smarter to be alive than technically right.

When I'm on my bike, I can either decide to be a bit of an activist, knowing that I've got many rights protecting me, or I can do what is often the smarter move and get out of the way. It is infuriating to get run off the road by an aggressive driver, but I'll vacate the lane often whenever I can't ride near enough to the speed limit or if there are vehicles stacking up behind me.

Being right is pointless if I wind up getting hit and seriously injured.

If you can't see the wisdom behind that, I wish you well, but will avoid discussions with you like I avoid discussions with anyone else that doesn't appear reasonable.
