Due to recent events I’m starting to worry about how I should handle even light confrontations with people in public now.

Tbh, "“Hey Bro, I’m in line, please wait your turn.” If they take issue with it I don’t back down. So far, I’ve stood proud and I don’t let people push me around. I’m not insulting, just firm with people." is not being chill or respectful or anything like that. It comes off as super aggressive. If you actually want to be respected and taken seriously, maybe try being ACTUALLY polite. "Oh, excuse me, I am in line too." As a non-short person myself, this kind of thing happens all the time, and it does to everyone, if you have a sour attitude about it and believe the only reason it happened is because you are short, then you get a situation like the viral video from this week. When you make a big deal out of it, everyone else will too.
