ELI5 ; Can anyone enlighten me on The Great Reset? My friend mentions it to me whenever we have deep convos

I'm not a believer in the idea, but the basic premise seems to be a complete and total abandonment of capitalism. They feel that because the divide between the rich and the poor is becoming so stark, eventually the exploited masses that prop up our society will rebel (service workers principally).

It's a little odd because it's a communist train of thought; 'the proletariat rising up to seize the means of production', but it's often couched in libertarian-type philosophy. They believe the best thing to do to survive is to have land and guns, a self-sustaining freehold in which they can survive regardless of the collapse of government.

It's a common idea, and indeed has happened in the past. They often quote Lenin, "Every society is three meals away from chaos". While of course there is a grain of truth to this statement, it fails to address the changes in society that have come about thanks to globalization and mass media.

Even in the worst case scenarios, for instance if a major first world nation has a severe enough economic collapse to cause a Bank run, the world economy is so inextricably interlinked that the world will, of necessity, come together and prop them up.

Just look at the Greek Financial Crisis as a modern day example. There can be no such thing as a great reset, because countries are so important and inter-reliant that they are the very definition of Too Big to Fail.
