Eli5: We have free Wifi on Trains, Ships, Buses, Metros etc. What makes it so difficult to have free Wifi on airplanes?

Netflix is a streaming service, there’s no need to have it locally when planes can license their own movies without having to pay a middle man to do nothing.

If they are partnering with Netflix, it’s to actually STREAM shows and movies via the Internet, which is exactly what the article says and not how you interpreted it. That’s what I was getting at.

They are doing this because no one watches the TVs anymore because they bring their own phones/laptops/tablets so the next logical step is to give people internet options.
