I think author’s sexual interest is showing through subtext.

Anthro animals(furries) have a stigma in reality.

I do think Blacksad/Odd Taxi does a good job of not feeling like the animals and worldbuilding weren’t entirely in service of a fetish. Im sure there’s more series similar.

Just keep in mind anthro animals carry a lot of meta social baggage. I personally actively avoid series advertising as furry as they often seem to be just to focus, glorify and justify the author’s sexual preferences towards animals.

Sorry just my take on a fad I don’t fully understand.
