I feel like I'm just not getting better

ll, find your new focal point back across the hill, and with your nose pointed straight down the fall line, engage the other edge and go back

It really depends on how steep the run is and if it's groomed or not. If it's steep, lots of little turns will control the speed, if you tried long draw out turns - you gonna go flying.

If it's chunder, gonna be hard to do drawn out turns as well. Best thing to do is to only try the steeps on a really good snow day - it's hard for alot of people to point the board straight down (even myself) but it's much easier to get courage when spilling it won't mean you'll be sliding down the mountain with no traction.

Additionally, I'd suggest he not worry about riding the steeps for now and just worry about learning how to ride in a dynamic fashion. If the op can't do that yet, he should learn how to do it and focus on blue runs..
