Its 85th out of more than 200 countries and I think for a third world country with such a huge population that is decent. Ofcourse we are making progress and that is the most important issue.
Nearly 200 million people in India live on less than $2 a day.
Yeah we have a country of 1.3 BILLION and it doesnt take a genius to figure what $2 gets in US is not the same as what $2 gets in India. Some rice, dal and vegetable can be easily bought for 50-60 Rs (approx 90 cents) and that can feed a family of three for a whole day.

Yeah we pay in hard cash. Its a business. SO what ? And our own indigenous industry is increasing exponentially. We build our own warships, got the indian manufactured first fighter jet inducted, own attack heli is in the making and own nuclear submarine is undergoing sea trials. We are building our own nuclear reactors and ICBMs. I would say this is pretty good progress from where we started

We are doing petty god on that front considering that there has been no major tension for the past decade not to forget the mind numbing diversity this country has. For westerners who are used to somewhat homogenised countries, they cant begin to fathom how diverse the country is. Ofcourse there is going to be some tension. Which country doesnt ?
