Free Talk Friday: Off Season

I don't like Fed either, here is why:

Before he won his first slam - 2003 Wimbledon - he hurt his back before playing Feliciano Lopez (who was really green at the time). Both the tournament doctor and his own physician are on public record, at the time, of saying that without the use of banned drugs he wouldn't have been able to continue in the tournament.

Somehow Federer beats Lopez in the fourth round. Doctors - both tournament doctor and his own physician - urge him to back out of the tournament. Yet he has the ability to do something all of his doctors and medical experts claim to be impossible. He wins right through to the championship in straight sets.

Two of his opponents were on public calling bullshit on Federer. The tournament doctor quit professional tennis after that tournament citing a belief that there were underhanded dealings in the tournament.

Federer himself is on record as saying that he learned 'little tricks' of the game dealing with the back injury in that tournament that he was able to use successfully throughout his career. Whenever asked about what they were he has refused to divulge any further information but has claimed that they weren't of a psychological nature.
