Only way I see Leafs making it work and actually improve is by involving a 3rd team. With a 3rd team we can use JVR/Bozak as trade pieces instead of players we want to keep like the kids or Kadri.
I'm going to go out on a limb and do something you should probably never do, and provide a specific trade that I think would benefit all 3 teams: (note, this is just an example, the third team could theoretically be most playoff teams looking for a rental with a decent prospect/young player they're willing to part with)

To Arizona: Sonny Milano (from Columbus), Kasperi Kapanen, 2nd round picks (from both)
To Toronto: OEL
To Columbus: JVR

This provides Columbus with a scoring winger that they're really missing after Panarin, Toronto shores up the defence, and Arizona gets a couple of young NHL caliber players that have a decent ceiling in Kapanen and Milano, and a couple of 2nd rounders where you can also find some solid value.
