Gator here, wondering what are valid reasons to be against GamerGate?

1) Yet another example of someone being an "Armchair general." "I care about reform within the gaming press, but don't expect me to actually do anything about it." Instead, I will sit and criticize those who actually do something. There are a very broad range of targets GG would like to tackle. Some require different levels of evidence and momentum. It certainly doesn't help being hamstrung by a bunch of misguided college freshmen.

2) It is kind of funny, the sites who decide to kneel at the altar of Social Justice are also the ones that are corrupt as hell. The portion of the indie game scene that is controlled by that hugbox clique just happens to also be rotten to the core. Aside from these small points, do you really believe the hundreds of thousands of people who participate in gamergate are all there to see vindication from the "few people who have slighted us?" please....

3) You are criticizing one of the only powers a consumer has over established commercial entities. Seems legit. Also, you are way off fucking target here. Those brands advertise with various gaming press sites because they seek to reach gamers. Some of these press sites no longer represent gamers, well, since gamers are dead. (spare me the whole "special meaning" behind the gamers are dead articles)

Secondly, these press outlets are rife with corruption and anti-consumer behavior. Both of these are things brands want to know about.

4) Because when you have cancer, the best course of action is to pretend it doesn't exist. That sounds hyperbolic, but I think it is the most apt descritption for these people who weaponize gender/identity politics, they are a cancer.

It is not only gaming either. Volumes have been written about the dangers these people pose within college campuses.

In the end though, I agree with you on this point. I wish the "SJW incursion" was less focused on, but I do not fault those who do focus on it.

But muddying the ethics discussion with this political agenda is harmful to the ethics discussion, and makes it impossible for me to support GG.

Lets not talk about "muddying the waters" here in this sub. That is all that happens here.
