Genuine Doubts.

  1. In a back three, you need players in there who can bring theb all out effectively and join the midfield. Otherwise when the opposition just plays one up, you have people standing around with nothing to do. As a right back in a four? Your guess is as good as mine. Rodgers seems to have a thing for wanting to get all his favourite players on the pitch, even if it means having them out of position.

  2. I think Markovic is a fantastic prospect, but he's young and has found adapting to lfe in the UK difficult by all accounts. I hope to see more of him next season.

  3. See 1. - Rodgers wants Coutinho, Lallanna, Sturridge and Sterling all on the pitch, and in a 3-4-3 that means playing at least one of them out of position. Putting our top scorer at wing back and then being sad when the team fails to score goals seems like a poor decision to me, but hey, I'm not a professional football manager.

  4. One feels that Gerrard is always capable of a flash of game-changing magic, form a free kick or a sublime pass or whatever. That can only happen while he's on the pitch. I'm with you in thinking that he might be better used from the bench like a footballing Mariano Rivera, but I think we're a minority.

  5. Players of the type we aspire to are beyond our budget. Costa, Sanchez, Willian, Mikhtaryen, Salah, hell, even Siggurdson, have turned us down on favour of wealthier clubs, with bigger payrolls, more glamorous locations, or Champions League football. FSG think we can buy young players and turn them into the stars of the future. It's a risky strategy, because it means we don't have older, experienced players for the younger ones to learn from.
