Gun subreddit raises thousands of dollars to fight human trafficking.

Since we are doing the quoting bit by bit thing now...

Most people shooting other people are doing it from up close.

As close you'd have to be to stab someone? No. A few feet is just fine, and that is my point.

Not sure the last time you shot a pistol under duress but I'm guessing you didn't hit much.

Luckily never! I don't live in a country where that ever has to happen!

I'm glad you live somewhere that the police show up the second you call them. Must be nice.

Random people on the street don't just attack you. Well, maybe they do in America. Not here. And public areas already have police around.

Unless the bad guy has a gun.

They don't unless they are "professional criminals". And even then, they probably still don't. Either way, those people are not the ones that would have any incentive to hurt me. I worry about robbers. Who don't have guns, as that would severely increase their penalty when caught. It is in their self interest to not carry a gun, and turns out, that works really well!

Or a knife

Good luck getting close enough to use that confidently when I'm swinging my baseball bat. Again, the people I am worried about are robbers. They'll just scurry off and hide, try some other house the next night. They have no incentive to actually get into a fight where they are likely to get hurt.

If they had a gun (and lived in a country where it isn't an automatic severe increase of sentence for carrying such a gun) they might consider themselves to have the upper hand, and try using the gun to keep me under control. Luckily, that's not a concern.

Or is across the room and making a move at my family

It's a robber. Remind me what they have to gain from this?

Or is bigger than me

Baseball bats hit big people too. See also the previous points. What do they have to gain from fighting you?

And who's to say they aren't looking for a fight? Not everyone's fight or flight response is the same. You may run away from a situation that someone else doesn't.

Hmmmm....

And that doesn't even account for the tweaker robbing me to afford his next fix. Try living outside of a major urban area and you might start to understand that not everything is the same as it is where you live.

Oh yeah, we don't have tweakers living off the street here either. Those people get the help they need if they want it, and get re-integrated into society.
