Has everyone on this sub got amnesia?? It has been over 20 years since Leicester beat us in 90 mins, and we thrashed them the last time we met. But somehow people here act like we haven’t got a chance next weekend! The negativity and short term mentality people show here is tiring. Real fans show unity even in the worst of times, so to be effectively throwing in the towel when we’re in a position as strong as we are now is nothing short of pathetic. The way some Arsenal fans bicker with each other on /r/Soccer doesn’t reflect well at all on any of us.
It’s unbelievable how quick we are to jump on the manager and team. Having a go at them for what we perceive as a lack of backbone is pure hypocrisy if we're on their back at the first setback. In reality, the ‘fans' who are rounding on this team are the only ones who are bottling it. Maybe this is the nature of the place but its not the way Arsenal fans should be and I'm disgusted sometimes by the way people on reddit represent our club. In my mind, you lose the right to point the finger at the players or manager if you can’t show a bit of belief yourself.
Yes we have had a blip but remember that neither of the two teams above us in the table right now have ever finished a premier league season that way, let alone won the thing. We currently have the advantage over City, are much better off than United and the chavs are no longer even a factor. It would be still be quite an upset if either Leicester or true perpetual bottlers, the spuds, finish top. And we are in the best position of any other team.
Agree with his methods or not, Arsène is one of the most loyal, respected, and experienced managers in world football and he has won the title exactly 3 times as much as the league’s other 19 managers put together. We also have the best group of players we have had in years. These people are fighting day in, day out to achieve something most of us have been longing for for the last decade. And its something that we’re not far off doing - win next weekend and we will be favourites for the title once more, (a lot of bookies still have us as favourites now!). Unlike some of the people on this sub, the players are all pulling in the same direction. True supporters do the same, they support the club they love. As for fair weather fans, you can take another team’s flair as far as I’m concerned. Maybe you’d like to follow City, they seem to be the team currently in vogue.
For the rest of us - we’re not City, we’re The Arsenal. A club with class, with a history of success that goes back further than the latest Sheikh or Russian Oligarch. A club with pride and, incidentally, one with a very real shot at achieving something big this year. So let’s start acting like it and get behind this team. COYG.
