NOT talking about OP, but generally the women I've noticed who declare their real gender a lot of times in public seem to be hungry for attention. You have entire communities of attention-seekers like all-girl 'competitive' 'clans' or 'camgirls' who have a need to bask in the sunshine of white knights and creepy/desperate type guys. It doesn't appeal me, but there's a very visible subculture of attention seekers out there.

I never advertise my RL gender, or if pressed I'll lie and say that I'm a guy. The only time anyone would find out that I'm a girl is when I use the mic, which is something I do rarely and only with people I've known for a while hanging out with anonymously. It's only a small minority of people which are toxic or thirsty, but even a small minority of a huge number tends to be a very large number.

Personally, anyone who asks me about my real gender raises all kinds of red flags in my mind, based on past experiences. The people who need to know are not all lonely/thirsty/desperate men, but a LOT of them seem to be so. I tend to stay as far away as I possibly can from people who give me even the remotest vibes their interest in hanging out is anything other than strictly platonic. If it IS strictly platonic, gender is irrelevant.

These days I tend to play solo in multiplayer games - I play on my own terms and can get company on demand in PUB groups. As a girl, PUB gaming with strangers while keeping my gender private is hands down the best experience in online gaming for me.

For those saying that women won't disclose their gender - some don't, like me. But this would only apply to public declarations; there's no cause to hide it from anonymous online polling or account data metric. YouTube's metrics around games getting only 1%-2% female viewers is probably very representational of female participation in mobile games.
