I think Good Time is in a league of its own for what the Safdie brothers have done so far and I honestly don't get why Uncut Gems was the one to put them over the top with mainstream audiences. Good time was a much better script, with more interesting characters and cinematography. But we gotta lose our shit over Adam Sandler, I guess! Lower the bar with enough Jack and Jills and Pixels and people will just go INSANE when you do something even decent.
Adam Sandler gives a good dramatic performance and people are blown away because Punch Drunk Love doesn't exist, apparently—a better movie that he was better in.
People also think energy = best acting ever, too though, so that's part of the problem. Casual audiences went apeshit over James McAvoy doing a bunch of campy caricatures and think that's the greatest piece of acting in cinema history, for example
