Help identify the females making a difference in open source communities

This. But not in a hostile way. Attempting to ensure equality of outcomes ensures reduction in overall quality. I expect that the women who are really making contributions are not likely to want to be singled out for "recognition" just because they are women.

The ones that do should be considered highly suspect as they may have the ulterior motive of seeking attention and validation simply by dint of being female.

These sorts of initiatives seek to create perverse incentives to draw attention-seekers into the education system and possibly into the STEM fields. Those who get through it should be lauded, but do not reduce standards to ensure their successful passage. I think an important question to ask though is why do these initiatives not exist for garbage haulers or road workers, which are fields also dominated by men?

Where are the initiatives to get more men into nursing, where a much wider imbalance has been allowed to exist for as long as records go back?

Where are the initiatives to get more men into elementary - high school teaching, where their numbers have been dwindling for the last couple decades?

The best possible question: Perhaps, if someone really wants to do a particular type of work, is it possible to just let them discover their own way? To step out of the way and let them fail and fail again until they don't fail. If they are coddled the whole way, they will not be effective at their work. Learn to fail. Fail often. Attempting to ensure equality of outcomes by lowering standards for a privileged class is a theft of experience and hurts everyone, including those who are privileged.

The open source community should be all about merit (fiefdoms aside). Don't crap on the true merit that a person proves through their work product just to promote a divisive cultural agenda. Don't single people out for attention that they don't deserve on the support of their own work product. Don't promote policies for contribution that perpetuate any form of racism or sexism, including those directed at people you don't like.

My commentary should be considered to be at the center of the Overton window.
