Sit down, young Centipede, and allow me to tell you a story. The story behind Voat is the story of freedom itself. When Reddit was first formed, it was formed with the idea of allowing a platform of freedom of speech on all topics, good and evil. When Aaron Schwartz was arrested for his beliefs in freedom of knowledge, the forces of censorship sought to destroy him. He was threatened by the powers that be and in a deep state of depression and despair, the young champion of freedom of knowledge ended his life. Reddit has been cursed by KEK ever since.
An unchecked evil emerged on Reddit in the guise of "good" intentions. The forces of freedom of knowledge were tricked into believing the forces of censorship were on the same side. United, they began to banish controversial fringe subs starting with /r/jailbait, then /r/coontown and finally /r/fatpeoplehate.
The denizens of those realms were forsaken and in their confusion wandered the wastelands of the internet. Eventually they met and despite their disparate ill motivations, they realized that a greater evil had usurped them. Together they marshalled their meager forces together and the vision that Aaron Schwartz had dead for began to re-emerge. The seeds of the original Reddit had been planted. Voat emerged from the barren soil.
The outcasts in the wastelands watched as the corruption on Reddit continued unabated, watching with a mix of sadness and grim satisfaction as the tendrils of censorship wrapped itself around ever and ever less controversial topics. As Reddit was slowly dying from self-inflicted wounds, Voat drank the blood which spilled from its wounds, slowly gathering strength.
Today we are in the final battle between the forces of freedom and the forces of censorship. There is a slim possibility of administering the antibiotic to the poison that Reddit suffers from, but it must be administered soon! For the time of no return is nigh! Hear! Good Centipede, the forces of good and evil must be returned to balance. For the vengeful dark-robed spectre of Aaron Schwartz is judging grimly with a scythe in hand in the portal to Voat itself, ready to administer the final death blow if Reddit does not repent from the wickedness that has possessed it.
