How can I prepare to apply to college and major in computer science?

If I were you id get your gpa up. Your SAT seems like it will reach 1500 based off what your telling me (try the ACT, i know people who did significantly better. Although when I did it i did worse. Basically, try the ACT also.) A 1500 is good enough for top schools.

But your gpa, if weighted out of 5, is bringing down your chances. Its actually a very good gpa, its just the schools your gonna want need a higher one.

If you want computer science, my suggestion is Carnegie Mellon Early Decision. Apply ED to maximize chances, which it does. I know everyone says Caltech and MIT are reaches for everyone, but for CS i dont think u can get into those two schools. GPA is too low(if weighted out of 5, if out of 4.3 than your good). Also whats your UW??

Your ECs are average. To show your love of Computer science, id try for summer internship in CS or programming, or try getting some type of work at a company for programming or CS. Do some volunteer work also.

If I were, aim for CMU. Its CS program is top notch, just as good as Caltech and MIT.

Another good school for CS is Georgiatech. Another I know is good for engineering is University of illinois, although im not sure about CS. Id do some research into Illinois

Bring your gpa up, and apply ED to cmu. Are you in wood working club? Are you in a programming club? Join them or start them. Maybe get a woodworking internship, or a programming internship. Do volunteer work.

I think your on a great track, but if you want a realistic estimate for where you can get into, try CMU ED and Georgia tech
