How many layers of immortality could a character have?

Cool. Then that means as long as one lives he is immortal. The way i see it if you make clones of yourself or something they will only have the knowledge you had when you made them. They can find things on their own and learn things like normal but they will be you but won't be you. I was thinking that with the multiple parts of your soul in others (whether it be an object or an actual person) would mean that you would have the collective knowledge from each person. They are you but they ground you down. Like you could kill his body but since his collective soul isn't dead he can't really die. All he needs is one part of his soul to come back to his main body to awaken him and heal him. Now i was thinking of doing a dread type of magic where when he gets a fragment of his soul back, his soul is patched together with the one that was in his original body before. So he can split it again to have another piece floating around in the world.

That's what i'm going for. Could be a Lich, i don't know. i would need to study on the Lich to know for sure. I'm still new to DnD.
