If not Game of thrones, which piece of media really did make an amazing on screen adaptation?

I've heard that they aren't going to adapt LotR again since it's been done only some years ago and is hard to replace. They don't have the rights to The Silmarillion. They have the rights, which leaves them with only one option... they'll have to right their own story in Tolkien's world. How well did that end for The Hobbit trilogy, even though it had only made some changes instead of writing a whole new story? What I think is that they'll fuck up, big time. You know ASoIaF readers? Honestly, Tolkien elites are far worse. This show will get bashed like crazy. I legit think it'll end up a mess, critically. Sometimes I wonder what Amazon was thinking when they bought the rights for $250 freakin millions?! But then again, Amazon has a great record of failed endeavours so I'm not really surprised. You don't buy the rights to a work with a devoted fanbase like LotR and try to write a story of your own making in it. The Hobbit movies, despite the bashing, worked only because they had PJ's name attached to them, the man behind the LotR Trilogy. Had Warner listened to him, TH wouldn't have been a mess because he wanted to make just 2 movies but Warner's greed was insatiable. They succeeded though. It ended up becoming the highest grossing movie trilogy of all time. This upcoming series has nothing like PJ to make people flock to it once they realise it's basically fanfic in Tolkien's Middle-earth.
