If a Rule Isn't in Writing Can it be Enforced?

Totally agree.

Most people I know have had ridiculous experiences with shelters and rescues. So we end up getting the pet off Craigslist instead, while shelter animals end up lonely for years and eventually put down.

I think that kind of organization just tends to attract some crazy, overly-controlling people who like to exert weird power flexes. Not that everyone in that role is, but definitely a lot of them.

Another thing with our foster kittens was that they wanted an additional home visit to check that our backyard was “securely fenced”. I told the rescue that they would be inside only, so the backyard didn’t matter, the kittens would never see it.

Nope! They insisted they had to come inspect our 7 ft. Privacy fence to make sure the kittens couldn’t get over/under it if they ever went outside.

A friend of mine read through her contract of her two year old little terrier mutt after she signed it. No known health issues whatsoever.

The rescue had a clause in there that if my friend didn’t take the dog to specifically “Dr. Jones” at X Animal Clinic” every 6 months for a mandatory checkup for the rest of its life , the rescue could steal the dog back at any time. She asked what would happen if Dr. Jones retired, or if he was too booked up to get an appointment. The rescue said that wasn’t an excuse. They can steal the dog if that happens.

Sometimes I wonder if these rules actually make sense to the people running it, or if they know they’re silly and are just messing with people for the hell of it.
