Inherent Vice: The Lovable Film & Incomprehensible Page

I feel like I’m the only person who thought that this was a movie that was supposed to be about a man trying to figure out how a women he was in love with is now with someone else. It’s hard to see this partly because Phoenix is so awful in it and just plays Doc as some broad hippie stereotype. It bothers me so much that people think he’s some genius actor. I think he gets that label because every acting choice he makes, all the ways he portrays himself in real life is to make people THINK he’s a great actor. But what real insight into life does anyone really get from him? In this film for instance, what is really great about his portrayal of Doc?
