Investing in VR

As a researcher into investing into the current phase pf VR development your point is a very cogent one @GambitGamer.

Not to make this too long winded a reply I will try and simply outline the impacts on company's position (stock value and business perception) if their VR approach does well or tanks this time round:

  • Sony Success= PS4 sales increase and new software opportunities along with hardware success, salvage falling share price and strong investor support Failure= Loss of all credibility in R&D from company, questions by investors of board, impact of share price (even more)

  • OVR/FB Success= Domination of a tier of the market and a new world of business opportunities based on their platform with resulting FB stock impact Failure= Any failure in establishing a lead will see serious questions on FB incredible investment, and looks towards change of management

  • Valve Success= Establishment of a new portal round SteamVR and creation of increased revenue, rocketing stock pricing Failure= Impact on stock and question about management credibility following latest failed initiative

  • OSVR/Razor Success= Creation of a new profitable division and business with establishment of a new revenue stream and increased stock placement Failure= Collapse of R&D investment and impact on future business opportunities and loss of credibility with investors

  • 3DHead Success= Many people will be surprised, and the VR scene will become a laughing stock Failure= Most expected situation, and could stop other companies trying to cash-in on VR

[Note - only focused on PC/Console - left mobile VR for another day]

Just my humble opinion on the situation, and not a reflection of the opinion of our consultancy and investment trust, but I hope a starting point for discussion. One interesting observation, can more than one company succeed?
