To not mention any context in this story is simply negligent. Police used too much violence but at least BRING SOME ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND to this event, whether you approve of it or not. Whether you deem it unjustified or not.

The Muslim narrative told in the Arabic media and according to Muslim leaders presents the police raid on the Temple Mount as an action designed for one purpose: to allow Jews to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque square, at the expense of the Muslims' freedom of worship there.

There is a kernel of truth in this narrative. The early morning police break-in into the mosque building, where young Muslims barricaded themselves in the dead of night and piled up piles of stones inside the mosque, was intended to allow the freedom of access and visitation of Jews - mainly followers of the Beit Temple movements - who are known to "come up" to the Temple Mount in relatively large numbers during Passover .

And why did the Muslims barricade themselves in the mosque? Because of an inciting advertisement based on an ad by an Israeli organization called "Returning to the Mountain". It offered a monetary reward to whoever managed to sneak up to the Temple Mount with a goat for the Passover sacrifice. Indeed, those who have recently visited the Temple Mount have noticed radical Jewish elements, who try to take advantage of every opportunity to perform prayers and rituals without being noticed by the Waqf guards. All of this under the auspices of the police, who made sure to keep the Waqf guards away from accompanying the Jewish groups and thereby violated arrangements that had existed since June 1967 - the quiet arrangements between the Waqf and the police, which were called the status quo. The temple movements have political supporters who pressure the police to allow more ideological or ritual visits by Jews.
