I mean the level of excuse making is unreal... poor Emperor Hirohito and his generals were sooo taken aback they thought they were still 'winning' the war at the time. No possible signs of that they were LONG defeated and every soldier sent to the frontlines / every bullet manufactured were going to be used to spill the blood of the country that THEY attacked first.

Oh, and not only did Japan have telegraph lines at the time... they had telephone communication OUTSIDE of the country. We're not talking about travelling the country by horseback and using carrier pigeons here.

All of that coming after a 5 year brutal campaign, leaving other parts of the country devastated from firebombing, with terms of surrender and a warning of "utter destruction" coming MONTHS earlier... with 'no' acknowledgement.
