Former Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed was the lead investigator in the case. He shared this comment on his Facebook page.
“Words cannot express my feelings today. I feel like my heart has been pulled from my chest. As the lead investigator, in this case, I feel we have not done justice for Savannah. I have worked many homicides in my career, and this case was a total failure. I can talk now knowing the facts on this case. What a failure in the judicial system. Plain and simple, I can die knowing she is guilty of murdering that poor child without a doubt. We let a murderer walk. Rudd you will meet a real judge before long and you will answer to the truth. It’s pretty chicken when you have to give the verdict through a email…..seriously…retire the day you give the verdict so there is no recoil. I will have more to say once I soak this in. May this rest on your conscience and this image comes in your dreams like it is burnt in mine. You made this nightmare and it is a total disgrace. Now let’s live this nightmare.”
Judge Calvin Holden retires as a judge on July 31.
