Just ordered a c64 on eBay, what issues with the system should I prepare for

I know everyone keeps going on about the power supply. The main thing to remember is it’s an external power supply. It’s always on as long as it’s plugged into the wall. Being on constantly will wear it out. So either get a newer one with its own AC power switch; or, remove the AC by unplugging it. You can put the whole system (monitor, computer, disk drive, printer, etc.) on a switched power strip so it’s all off when not in use.

You will probably need to open the case at some point to service it. Remember it’s old plastic. Be careful. Don’t over tighten any of the screws.

The easiest way to get started with software is an SD2IEC, but I prefer a real disk drive.

Be super careful around the joystick ports! It’s a good idea to keep something plugged into joystick port 2. It’s very easy to shock the CIA chips with static electricity. The power switch is right next to joystick port 2. If you reach for the power switch and hit the joystick port with your finger after waking across the carpet in socks, you’re going to learn a harsh lesson.
