Katie Joy Paulson: We need better laws to protect children’s privacy online, I would never exploit my medically fragile child on the internet // ALSO KATIE JOY PAULSON:

I just had a sad thought: the video linked above was possibly one of the LAST times Von has left the house for something besides school (home-bound since March) and doctor appointments. Almost one full year ago, to the date. No trips to the park, no bike rides (pull along trailers exist), no nature walks or fishing trips. No family drives to see the mountains, no children’s museums or local fall festivals. Just those four basement walls and the driveway if he’s lucky.

This video is PROOF Von should and could be living a much fuller life. Regardless of how anyone feels about Myka and James Stauffer, at least they recognized at some point that they were in over their heads. Not all homes are conducive to growth, and that is especially so for children with special needs. I hope Huxley is running freely, at full sprint, through a beautiful green park, laughing loudly as I type... and I hope he takes another glory lap for children like Von who are kept in basements and refer to strangers online and adult nurses as their friends. Huxley is free, at last.
