Kim Tan's Talk Time (Tuesday) - [2022/01/18]

Hospital Playlist: It definitely took me 4-5 episodes to get hooked, but I'm invested now that I feel like I know the characters more. They really throw you in at the deep end at the start with a flurry of characters and plots and it took me a while to get a feel for everyone. But I just love the ebb and flow of this show, I find it very relaxing. Of the main five, I love every single one for different reasons especially Ik Jun, his dry humour is brilliant, but Jeong Won is still distant (to me) as a character. He's clearly kind and compassionate and extremely invested in helping people but I don't feel I know him/like him as much as the others. But I have no problem being patient, this show is unfurling so many aspects of all its characters still.

Black: I love fantasy shows but I just do not know what to make of this one. I'll give it a few more episodes though. Just the tone is kind of off. It's so unnecessarily gross and gory and I don't know if this is for dark humour or is being played seriously. Seeing Go Ara's cameo in Hospital Playlist reminded me of the... er, comments on her acting I have seen around here which led me to want to check out her own shows. I admit I thought something was slightly off about her in HP but I thought it was because she was playing 'herself' which can often land weirdly, in any show. But yeah, in Black, I see it. She's weirdly pretty OK at the dramatic emotional crying scenes, yet falls flat in the ordinary back and forth conversations.
