KVD's latest Instagram post

So I’ve been following all of this drama since yesterday and I wanted to share my thoughts as well. Hope no one minds :) I first discovered Jeffrey through MannyMUA and PatrickStarr. The three of them, and possibly a few more youtubers whom I don’t watch enough to recall their names at the moment, were very cliquey – whenever I saw vlogs where they debuted or videos being posted on their own channels with one another, I always got that mean girl clique vibe from them. I was also a little annoyed at just how attention seeking they all were on video – more on that another time. However, Jeffrey piqued my interest as he had been a rising Youtuber and I heard he had a makeup line as well, so I decided to check him out and give him a proper chance. The first video I ever saw of him he was making indirect shady comments towards another youtuber or company – I didn’t quite understand and I don’t quite remember his remarks – but then he started smoking weed in the middle of the video and I was left awestruck. I saw another one where he pulled a gun or knife out of his handbag. And I watched a handful more where I saw him casually curse or use inappropriate language to address another person or situation on youtube. Now bear in mind, I don’t remember which videos I saw all of these behaviors in, nor do I care, but ultimately I was quite disappointed. As someone who is the face of a company and a brand, especially one with such a prominent influence on social media, I felt as if his behavior was unprofessional, unbecoming, and especially disgusting. There’s a difference between coming off as fierce and sassy and coming across as aggressive and paranoid. When you’re calling other women trash, when you’re calling young men who idolize you the c word, when you’re drudging up a woman’s ability to get and keep a guy, and when you’re ganging up on young teenagers and small businesses who disagree with you or are “not up to your standards”…those are all words of a bully. Of a person who is scared and hiding behind a persona…it is absolutely atrocious to hide behind a screen and hurl away insults towards people who are just trying to have fun on youtube as you are. I have many MANY issues with much of the youtube beauty community, and DESPITE their many shady background stories and issues, I always found MichellePhan and Marlena from Makeup Geek to put on a good professional front for their businesses – this is not to say they are good people and haven’t pulled awful stunts on their viewers also such as Phan’s many failed business endeavors and Marlena’s (was it racist comments and Gerard cosmetics issue?) Can’t remember but really not the point – but I always found them to be professional in their videos. I think it’s absolutely incredible that he is being called out by KatVonD for his dishonest behavior (I love some good gossip, and I also love a personal take down when the shoe fits and the scenario is appropriate), and Kat has started this incredibly damaging spiraling effect towards his image as person after person continues to pop up and support KatVD and make their own statements on Jeffrey’s character such as Chris? From Fall out Boy and was it Kylie Jenner? On twitter. He was at 2 million subscribers just recently and already he’s dropped back down and his numbers continue to dwindle. People like Jeffrey need to take a step back and realize they cannot continue to blame the world for their problems and use such crude threatening language to bully and silence others. I applaud KatVD for her decision to distance herself on Jeffrey and make a very public announcement to that effect, so much so as to pull her lipstick named after him. I know many people are commenting that this is highly inappropriate and could be settled behind doors, but I think making this situation public is truly important – here we have a man known for creating unnecessary drama fueled by his lies, she introduced him to quite a few of business contacts and placed her name on the line to help him achieve his dreams, to my understanding he also gained quite a few viewers riding her coattails if I’m not mistaken, and finally he’s completely ignoring all of her attempts at communication – a social call out is all she really has left at this point to really make sure he understands the situation and the people he is hurting – her contacts and friends especially – are aware. Even if she were to silently have BJ pursue a lawsuit, I can easily see Jeffrey avoiding the situation and taking that as an opportunity to blowup social media with attacks on KatVD for instigating all of this “drama.” And unfortunately with the nature of Youtube and social media today I could see those allegations sticking and issues for Kat arising. Finally, and most importantly, I think it was important for Kat to go public, as one of the things she said herself is, his demographic is young teens who can be easily influenced and victims of activity they see on social media. I think it was a very important thing to put this information out there so viewers can see and start thinking of what this could mean and what a bad role model they might be following. I saw many commenting that they were disappointed that KatVD didn’t come out with this information – she should have made the announcement to dissolve her partnership with Jeffrey earlier. I saw her explanation video on Youtube, and I think she honestly started to distance herself from Jeffrey when she noticed his vile character as to not cause any unnecessary drama. I think even if he had a bad personality and such she would have just quietly off screen let the friendship dissipate – that way no party would be injured, especially her own brand as she doesn’t really have anything in terms of “proof” other than his bad behavior in his past to support their personal interactions to explain to viewers why she decided to end their partnership should he send his minions after her and go on a social media tirade to damage her reputation. I hope I’m making sense in explaining this – I’m just on a RANT! Haha. I also think she honestly still considered him a friend and thought he could still change, but the moment she found out her name was technically being placed under fire for introducing him to BJ in the first place, she decided to go forth with this decision publicly. And good on her too – KatVD’s name and her brand cost much much more than an ounce of Jeffrey, and I truly think his name is about to just go down in flames. I definitely think this was the right thing for her to do and she is handling it in a very elegant and classy manner.
