I was born and largely raised in one of the most dangerous and corrupt cities in the world, in a pretty bad neighbourhood. I never felt the need for a gun. I don’t know anyone that needed a gun. We kept our doors tightly locked, we drove with our purses in the trunks of our cars, we never walked around with our phones in our hands and we never walked the street at night. But a (perfectly legal there) gun never even crossed our minds.

I now live somewhere in Europe, in a very “ethnically homogenous” area. It’s nice feeling safer, not having to keep alert all the time. But I’m not so scared I would never go back to my home country. And I still think owning a gun is bonkers
