Last year, I traveled 2,100 miles in one trip without sleep, bought a Gen II Dodge Viper, drove it almost daily for 13 months, then resold it for a profit. I wanted to share the story of the craziest thing I've ever done.

I made this video to tell a story about my and my wife’s fairly unique ownership period of a Gen II Dodge Viper GTS ACR.

Without sleep or stopping for more than 15 minutes at any given point, I traveled over 2,100 miles in a single stretch to claim “first dibs” on a clean-title Viper that was for sale at a distressed value in the Midwest last year. Because the car was so cheap (and came with some extra, very valuable goodies that helped buoy the resale value), my wife and I were able to enjoy the car (some of her co-workers had a blast riding in it too), tinker with it, and eventually resell it a year later for substantially more money than we spent on it (including airfare, taxes, insurance, etc.).

We made it a priority to service several typical problem areas with the car (also paid for) despite the fact that our car had no mechanical problems during our period of ownership. Each of the repairs we did either has not ever been filmed before, or if it has, was documented with cell-potato footage or a write-up that was incomplete or hard to understand.

We’re hoping our honest assay of the experience, costs, etc. will help future owners assess whether or not the Gen II Viper GTS is the right car for them, what they can expect to pay, etc. We’re even planning on releasing a video of ourselves conducting a pre-purchase inspection that can be used by shoppers looking to evaluate Gen II Vipers, but who have less background knowledge of the car or shade-tree wrenching experience. Oh, we made a full review and some random hooning videos too.

Anyway, we had so much fun doing this that we actually bought another car to try it again, this winter, and are negotiating with a couple of potential sellers to acquire a second car to the same end as well (at this point, it looks like it’ll be either a later-model Viper or a 3-pedal Aston Martin DB9). Those should be more fun because we can release videos in-process as the year goes on, so the account will be more blow-by-blow. We didn’t do that with these because we wanted to make sure we really could do it before we told everyone (and then got publically humiliated for failing).

We're happy to answer any questions you guys have about what we did to make this happen. I’m also happy to talk about the process of getting a really insane deal on cars generally, as I’ve now had a glut of experience negotiating against (and with) a wide array of people from all walks of life.

If you guys like the video, we’d love to have more channel subscriptions. We’re striving to improve the quality and editing each time as well; we’ve never done anything like this before.

Oh, and lest I forget, Pictures!
