Lenovo laptop random freezing issue .

I went through a time of "lag" with my Legion 7 laptop. I would be typing or moving the mouse and it would just temporarily freeze and then it would all start working again. It was some kind of weird and specific buffering because I could continue to type and when the system "unfroze" all the text that I had written in that state would be there.

I tried a few things and haven't had the problem since, but sadly, I don't know which of the things helped. My situation FELT like a hardware / USB issue of some sort, but I really don't know what it was.

The things that I did may be things that would help you, whether your problems are the same as mine were:

  • At an Admin command prompt: SFC /SCANNOW It said that it fixed issues, so maybe it actually did something

  • Check Device Manager for any issues with hardware. No hardware complaints in there

  • I went into Windows Update > Update History and Googled to see if any of the more recent updates were known to be troublesome. There were some problems with some of them, but nothing that really seemed relevant

  • I used a Restore Point to a time before the lag situation started.

If it had been necessary, I would have booted in with a fresh USB boot drive created by the *Windows Media Creation Tool to run a repair of Windows...

It never got to that, but another option, the "final solution" would have been to back up my data and use that same USB drive to format and install a fresh version of Windows.

GOOD LUCK WITH IT!
