Logic✨

I did not post immediately after the post went live. I posted when there were well over 100 comments. I read each and every one and found none that I find in other meme threads.

When a meme thread is posted, within three minutes of the post I see the first comment of someone making a snarky remark about how this sub is stupid and full of bigots.

Here is the breakdown of the rest of your argument:

the circumstances surrounding the two situations are completely different. In TLOU1, Joel just saw 2 people gunned down in the street, in a city filled with people who have already tried to kill them repeatedly, when he encounters Sam and Henry.

The circumstances don't matter. Joel is a survivor and this is completely out of character for him. If you recall, at the beginning of TLOU1, Joel didn't even let Tommy stop to help someone in need when there was no pandemic but now, in a post-apocalyptic world where it's dog eat dog he is casually offering his name in the middle of a room full of armed people? This is laughable writing.

Whereas in TLOU2 he has spent the last FOUR years with multiple people who have his back, in a community that is actively reaching out to find other survivors (there's actually a note you find from Seth -- the bigot sandwich -- trying to find help, for example) and runs into Abby as she is nearly killed by a horde, with his brother next to him.

See above. You will also recall a scene in TLOU1 where Joel happily runs over someone in a truck asking for help.

If you want see what good writing looks like when searching for survivors in a post-apocalyptic world, look at the firs three seasons of The Walking Dead, more specifically, when they are looking for people to bring in Alexandria and how cautious they were.

Saying Joel got soft in FOUR years when he wasn't even soft in a pre-apocalyptic world is the dumbest defense I have ever seen.

Out looking for survivors does not mean you go around offering your base of operations to a room full of armed forces. Again, look at how they vetted people when welcoming them into Alexandria in the Walking Dead.

All of this, when, in-fact, Joel KNEW that there were some people looking for him. What did he think? What were they looking for him for? To have a round of beers and darts?

TLOU1 Joel would no only NOT save Abby, he would leave her to die and save his own life, as he has been pre-conditioned to do since before the apocalypse. Again, look at how he behaved at the start of TLOU1 when they were in the truck.

In a post apocalyptic world, when you are out looking for survivors, you save your own hide first and foremost, then, when you meet someone, you are extremely cautious and watch their every move. You vet them, severely and extraordinarily. Only then do you welcome them into your base and even then, you keep watch for several weeks to months.

Look at TLOU1 Joel.

Look at TLOU1 Bill. Look at the way he acted even when he already KNEW Joel.

Look at the Alexandria arc of The Walking Dead.

And that's just one argument against the interpretation of why Joel would "apparently" act one way in one situation and act differently in another situation. If you engage people as people, instead of reductivist bullshit like you're doing, you might actually learn something.

The last three times I tried to engage someone from the other side in a discussion, I got called a bigot transphobe cry-baby so excuse me for now taking the same stance as the other side by default.
