I’m not sure if you’re looking for a metric here but I’m sure it’s easy to Google how many ODA’s there are in a battalion, and how many battalions (4) there are in a Group (7). There’s also a Headquarters Company within each Group and I’m stepping out on a leaf here and assuming each battalion also has a HQ company. You’d spend 2-3 years on a team (someone correct if that’s not the average life on a team for an O), then you’d likely hit your next billet at your Group’s HQ Company. After that I would assume you’d pick up a billet within your Group proper. This is what a likely progression would look like. Keep in mind I am not SF and am unaware of any other billets that are probably open to a competent SF officer, this is just a logical/linear progression. BLUF: You can spend the rest of your career in Special Forces if you’re competent.
