Looking for a doctor who can diagnose me.

This is a perfect response. Also totally true.

ERs are less emergency these days and more "unscheduled care." Most often it is "my primary care told me my appointment is in 2 weeks, so I dont want to wait so I'm going to ER." That's fine, and even encouraged, but don't expect to get the answers you want. I've seen many patients who are too impatient to follow a prescribed care plan that, if followed, would have given one the diagnosis and treatment.

In the ER....I am absolutely not obligated to give you a diagnosis. It's emergency care! By design, I am obligated to tell you what it is not.. (Stroke, MI, PE, Sepsis, etc)

If it is not a threat to life, limb, eyesight, or could result in rapid morbidity/mortality, I will refer you to your primary care and discharge you.

Biggest misconception Americans have about Emergency Medicine is that we are just like your regular doctors, only with less wait time. We are experts in emergency resuscitative care, and everything else is ancillary.
