I’m planning to get only a le fort 1 (2piece). I start braces tomorrow. The le fort and braces are all I can afford. Is it going to be worth it?

I’m curious if it’s really worth going through all the pain of the surgery and recovery for my underbite. I’ve already taken the steps to begin the process. I’ve saved for years to make this happen. But now that it really is, I’m a little nervous and I guess need validation for my decision. Pretty much everyone around me thinks I’m crazy lol.

I technically can say that I currently have a bad camouflage of an underbite. When I was a kid, I would force my top teeth over my bottom ones because I hated my underbite. I was able to get my bottom teeth to tip back a little bit. All except one tooth. Because of this, I do have jaw pain on a daily basis. There really isn’t a relaxed position I can keep it in because of the one wonky tooth that didn’t tip back like the others did. Once I hit that tooth with my top teeth, I have to slide my bottom jaw forward which pulls just a tiny bit at the joint. Doing this all the time has made it to where my jaw hurts all the time and always feels tense.

I’m also wondering what changes to nose shape getting only a le fort 1 2 piece would make. All the before and after a I’ve been able to see from googling seem like they are DJS with the genio. That doesn’t really help me get real life examples.

I’ll also be around 36 when I get the surgery. I’m worried that at my age I’m just wasting money. Like my teeth won’t even last long enough to make use of it. This is probably anxiety here since my teeth are in decent shape other than what seems to be wear from my bad bite.
