I get a little bit of good info even from posts I don't like. I just figured being a vagabond supposedly could include rubber tramps, but r/vagabond is a good place, for a reddit.
Jump in the car instead of hitchhiking, most of the places I skip probably suck. I can carry a tent,ditch the car someplace safe or cheap parking anyway. Do the same stuff they do. They romanticize the shit outta hanging out under bridges and the druggies you meet. I already know something about that. I fit right in.
Being dirty and greasy makes you stand out. Begging is not, all that. Do what you gotta do, I don't give a shit, it is much better than bitching and waiting for a miracle if your out on the street trying to get by.
Saying that theres only one way to get around and meet people and have new experiences, and saying you must be under thirty is bullshit. Seems to be a west coast thing where the weathers nicer.
In reality, people drive and ditch their F'd up cars if they have to. They sleep in them rather than be at the mercy of every A hole and skunk and poison ivy and cop out there. I'm on the fence as to whether a greasy stranger with a huge backpack is going to have the optimum nice time when they get into the center of town most places. You'd have so many problems feeding/ cleaning yourself, can't put your shit down anywhere, I tell you- what home bum with a mind to think with, does all that?
Yeah scooting around the US in a crap car blows. Get out with a clean t shirt on and hit Mc Donalds with your coupons, or grocery store meal, use the shitter, just like any other vagabond. splash water on yourself, slick back hair, brush teeth and floss, deodorant.
Hitting the same Ymca to shower. maybe same shelter for free meal.
Driving a car would suck when it rains my shits in the trunk and Im inside or within a couple miles of there and know my shits probably ok. That sucks!
Another thing: Makes my bullshit detector go off- No one claims to have a home base or place to go back to, as they are so slick they just live off the land, again maybe where its warmer out.
