The Media's Failure on the Trump Indictment | The Problem with Jon Stewart

Can I ask you a serious question about the media?

Is it their fault or the fault of their audience? I studied journalism years ago but I left when I realized the kind of shit I'd have to write. There was no option to be the watchdog I wanted to be. The best I could hope for was to be a good little lapdop or stick to pop culture BS.

But a big part of it was from newspaper sales plummeting. Nobody wanted serious news 20 years ago. Or at least not enough to spend a few bucks on it. Everyone started getting their news from bloggers and websites.

If the audience isn't there for hard hitting news, it isn't there. If you want to stay in business you cater to the lowest common denominator and you stay on the government's good side so you can be invited to press conferences.

It fucking sucks. You can't fix it from the inside or the outside.
