Is Medicine really worth it?

I enjoyed medical school, and enjoyed the hard slog of hospital work for a while. I got a bit burned out on it around about the time I had children. As did my wife.

But I've changed tracks. I've jumped ship from physician training to pathology, and am enjoying a much greater work life balance with much more pleasant and consistent hours, studying for exams that seem more sensibley written and with a college that seems to actually care about our wellbeing.

You'll be able to make your medical career into whatever want it to be. Just don't get yourself into a miserable 'sunk cost fallacy' type situation where you feel you're too invested to change tracks even though you're miserable. I've seen too many people do that. You can always make a change.
