Some of these countries did and or do (to great and small extent) abstain from practical world politics when it suits them (citizen # caps and "stability" of resources as precedence, "eco-fascism" was one term once used to criticise such former policies, also war profiteering just like US does, war crimes just as US does not ever admit war crimes, etc)
