You don't really need to pay attention to things like theme days if you don't want to. As you've already learned, if you're female, you can get a lot of responses even with a pretty basic post. You could probably find someone pretty easily to help you get started.

One problem that you may be having is that there really isn't much standardization of the way people post. To one person a "roleplay" is something that's done in essentially real time and is over in an hour; while to another person, it might involve multi-paragraph responses and go on for weeks. People who post often don't do a good job of specifying what they're looking for, which can make it difficult to figure out. But if you're the one posting, that shouldn't be a big problem for you.

One thing I'll say is that the more specific you are about what you want, the more focused the replies will probably be. If you say "Hey, I want to write something sexy with someone," you're going to get a million responses.
