There are different ideas being tossed around about this issue, whether defunding is just allocating resources or if it means demolishing police departments and replacing it with community efforts. However, I think most people who live in crime ridden cities with very little police presence understand that consequences of that.
Once again, I'm going to bring up economics like I always do with these social issues, because they like to think money just...happens.
Crime goes up -> People in the community with money leave -> Businesses who depend on those people follow -> Jobs are loss and unemployment goes up in that city -> taxes go down -> the community decays as result of not enough funding -> crime, violence, and drugs gets worse.
Some cities in America have an issue with needing more police, as the response times are insane and therefore a lot of crime and violence goes unsolved.
