Intel and America has been making chips for a long time, so they won't be America's first fab. Comparing Micron and Intel is like comparing a beverage company and a chicken farm. I guess they're both food? But are they really all that related? Fabs are complicated, there is no chance Apple starts their own.

I'm an EE by training, I know the physics, I've personally worked on ASICs and typically don't touch semiconductors because they are very difficult to analyze except in periods of extreme fear or euphoria where it is clear the market is wrong. Buffett doesn't invest in them and neither do a lot of value investors.

Given the questions you're asking, I would highly recommend staying away. Lots of people have lost their livelihoods betting on semis.
