Music snobs and Taylor Swift

I hate how many snobs are really critiquing it in patronizing ways for not being truly folk or indie. Now as someone who follows the small folk scene in Canada quite closely I will agree that yes, this album with drum machines and pop-influenced big name production is not some quaint little folk record you make in the back of a coffeehouse with fifteen dollars and a dream.

But neither is Taylor claiming that’s what it is either. It’s her diving deep into her songwriting potential with very well-made beautiful songs with many genres as inspiration. It’s that sexism coming back with female artists often being scrutinized for being faux-folk/indie with major male artists and groups often not facing nearly the level of scrutiny.
